Greece

After arriving in Igoumenitsa, the greek harbour we drove down to Parga where we stayed for 2 nights to get some sleep after the ferry trip from Italy. After these two nights we even got used to the way the Greeks sell fruit and chairs :-)

We then drove to the Vikos Gorge, a amazing Canyon in the north west of Greece. After we spendt the night on a beautiful green patch under the stars I asked Fu to drive the little roads through the mountains to reach the Prespa Lakes instead of driving along the main road around the mountains. After half a hour I was happy to find Fu reading the map and finding the way! Because all the roadsigns where written in Greek and our map is written in Laten letters. -> You couldn't even compare map with sign, because a H is a I, a B is a V, etc.

After another 30 minutes the road turned to a gravel road and after another 30 minutes to a track where you could hardly drive the motorbike. But after more or less 6 hours we finally reached the main road. It was a brilliant day, though very tiering.

The next day we drove to the Prespa Lakes, the border between Greece, Albania and Macedonia. It's a Nature Reserve with hundreds of Pelicans. Now it's already the third night in a row we didn't go to a campsite, but the first time there is water around! So the next morning we went swimming in the ice cold water. It was about time, you could smell us miles away.

Hiking on the Mount Olympus was a great Highlight! But once again the bad weather joined us and we only nearly reached the top of the Mytikas, the highest peak of the Olympus.

The Monastries buildt on impressive Pineakles near Meteora was our next stop befor we drove via Delphi to Marathon near Athen to pick up our visitors.

Berti and as a surprise Sarah visited us for 12 days. They hired a car and together we explored the Pelepones(we call it Pipapo). The first impression the two had of Greece was camping and cooking dinner in the poring rain and we had to flee into the laundry to finish cooking :-)

we then visited Athens Akropolis

the Canal of Korinth

the Ancient Theater of Epidavrous (at that time only Sarah and Berti, Fu and I went to see a Theater 10 days later when the two where on their way home to switzerland)

Nafplio a little town on the coast

Monemvasia in the very south of the Pipapo a little village on a island with a big wall surounding it and with castle above the village

we drove along the most beautiful road where the sea was turkies blue near Kalimata

and of course we enjoied the sun, the sea and the Mythos (a Greek Beer)

But the time goes and they had to leave again :-(

The left overs headed north east to the border of Turkey were we spend a few days near Kavala to write the latest news to you befor we drive to Istanbul.
