On our second day in Istanbul I found out, UB40 will be playing the next Saturday, so we decided to visit that concert. It was a little strange to us but very good!
After a little more than two month and 7'576km in Europe, we pass the Bosporus and start to explore Asia:-)
The first night in Asia we spend at the black sea and I'm having a cool morning swim. The hole Camping is very nice everybody sitting around a fire in the evening.
After that little excursion we are heading south. Via Iznik, where I'm getting a new battery (Yamaha, but it would work if they would have putted the right fuse), and Bursa to Canakkale. When we are just having a little waterstop near a factory we get invited for a tea and an Ayran (very refreshing yogurt drink). We are visiting Troy and getting some new fuses which they just give to us, including a tea and a nice little Turkish - English hand and foot conversation.
A must to visit is Pamukkale (shining white limestoneterrasses) which we do the next day.
In Oeluedeniz (south of Fethiye) we meet a Dutch guy who is now living here and would never go back and we try to find cool spots in the very warm sea.
Heading to Antalya we have to spend one night in our lunch-stop-restaurant. In the evening we visit Olympos and Chiamera with Murat and Yasar, it is a very nice evening.
The next day we are heading to Antalya again, but Tu's Bike slippes away in a curve, she is sliding about 10m over the whole street. Instead of being there and helping her to free her leg from the Bike, I'm waiting for her at a Petrol station. But very friendly Turkish people help us, especially Sukru who stays with us the whole day. Tu was very lucky and only broke her arm (-> 5 weeks of holiday in Tekirova) and the bike is fixed after a few hours.
Here in Tekirova we meet a lot of very nice people and we are getting new names: I'm Sinan now and Tu is called Philis. Especially with Sukru we are spending a lot of time and he is guiding us around, proudly riding Tu's (Sorry - Phili's) Moto Guzzy. Like this we see Antalya, nice little Rivers and the Mountains around. The rest of our time we spend just sweating and waiting for cooler evening to come.
On my birthday the 'Tekirova Family' organizes a nice little Party with everything that it needs - Teshekuer ederim!
Sarah (becoming Suna) is visiting us for one Week and shortens our waiting time a little.
After 5 Weeks we leave Tekirova. With Mama we drive to Manavgat, we have to take the road through the Mountains, because the Coast-road is closed. This day it is very nice Weather and we have a great view. In Manavgat we spend the rest of the day with Civi, Isamil and Mama. We buy rings for pretending our marriage in Iraq. In Side we drink them in, so now we are married.
We take the road along the Coast to Mersin, although everybody tells us that it is not good - too many curves:-). It is a very nice road and also because it is weekend there is very little traffic.
After Mersin we are heading to Adiyaman where we are visiting the Families of Zeki and Jussuf. We stay 3 nights (one of them we spend on Nemrut) and we have a very nice and deep view in the live of a farmer family.
In Turkey we where lucky, to get in touch with three different cultures. First we met the city-people in and around Istanbul. City-Life is similar to everywhere. People work 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. The weekend they spend on Campgrounds around Istanbul. We were happy to meet very friendly people.
Second, we have had a look at the life behind the tourism. Because we were staying in Tekirova for a few weeks, we got in touch with many people running shops or restaurants or working there. These people work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. When there are no tourists buying anything, they don't have any income. In Tekirova we were living with them, as if we would belong to the family.
The third culture we've seen, was farmer’s life. The simplest life of all. They live from they’re own growing’s and smoking they’re own tobacco. Especially Women never get out of they’re village. They just work on the fields and in the house day by day. We have seen how big they’re friendliness and hospitality is at the Family of Zeki.
All the people we met, where friendly. They always offered us Tea or even half of they’re meals! With any kind of problems, everybody was always helping us. We have experienced great hospitality and have made very good new friends.
Tank you very much.
